biography

AUBURN formed in the summer of 1997. Their first gig was at the jam-packed launch party of Scarlet Records held at the salubrious and smoky Madame JoJo's in Soho to a completely packed and enthusiastic house.

They immediately recorded their first single, 'Sweet Sebastian', which was released in 1998. The record received extensive airplay, on XFM, GLR, SBN and regionally, and backed by a nation-wide mini tour, the single sold out of it's limited pressing within 2 weeks.

They spent a few months writing new material and then teamed up with up and coming producer Tim Pettit, who had just finished working with Travis, Sun House and Carlene Carter.

With Tim, they recorded the next single 'For Life', which also got great radio support and the band toured UK and played many live radio sessions, including GLR (Robert Elms) in London.

Since then, they've had a baby!!!! (Well, Wan & Liz have!), And written and recorded the debut Album DREAMS.

Since DREAMS was completed, and released to fantastic reviews, selling steadily over the last 12 months, AUBURN have toured with SOPHIE ELLIS BEXTOR  In UK and EUROPE, playing to 40,000 people and continue to play live to great response whilst starting to write for their next album. They have also signed licenses throughout Europe and now signed to RIVE DROITE MUSIC for publishing.

Live & Acoustic

The band have a fully 'electrified' live show, when they run keyboards, electric guitars and BV's along with a live strip kit, upright double bass and acoustic guitar, that has been described as 'pants shaking' (!)

Recent London venues include the 'Time Out Venue Of The Year' 12 Bar Club in Denmark Place, W1, 'The Water Rats Theatre', The Hope & Anchor acoustic festival in Islington, and The Mean Fiddler Acoustic Room.

Auburn is just as much at home on the acoustic stage as they are at any full-blown, full-on, full band venue.

Liz Lenten - VOCALS

After touring UK & Europe playing live, Liz moved from Manchester to London and put her first band together. They immediately won Bill Wyman's 'Pernod Aims' band competition and were signed to Ripple Records.

Liz then went solo for a couple of years and signed to Swanyard Records, writing and recording with various producers including Danny Schogger (Sam Brown, Paul Young) and Pete Brown (Cream). At just 25, she set up Sync City Rehearsal & Recording complex in North London, eventually relocating the recording studio to their current premises and upgrading to 24 tracks. This became Scarlet Recording Company and in the last few years they have recorded dozens of up and coming bands demos, records for release, as well as their own artists material.

Liz then teamed up with London promoters (The Water Rats, The Monarch, The 12 Bar Club) and set up Scarlet Records. After Auburn, she signed Shane McGowan's band 'The Popes', released two singles with them and now manages the band as well as handling Shane's admin. She also set up Scarlet Management and Scarlet Promotions, and works with many different artists and events.

Liz co-writes the AUBURN material with Mark Gustavina, the bands guitarist although she has a back catalogue of material, written alone and with various collaborators, available for publishing.

Mark Gustavina - GUITARS/keyboards

Mark, better known as Gus, has been playing guitar since he was 4! He played in 80's glam-punk icons 'Kid Gladlove' (now half of 'The Buzzcocks') and mellow Sony band 'Catacoustics'. A proficient song-writing collaborator, Gus co writes all the AUBURN material with Liz.

Wan Hewitt - ENGINEER /PRODUCER/drums/percussion

Based at Scarlet Recording he has recorded many aspiring new bands worldwide. Specializing in LIVE sounds he has achieved brilliant results leading to several signings and releases. Wan has worked with many notable artists including THE JELLYS (NME single of the week), MODERN ENGLISH, BOP BROTHERS, EARL GREEN, THE POPES and as well as new up and coming bands like BURST and INDIGO.

The AUBURN album has been a labour of love over the past 18 months and he has enjoyed developing their distinctive sound. His incredibly individual approach to recording and production can be clearly heard on the new DREAMS album, already gaining compliments and interest throughout the industry.

Wan also plays drums and percussion LIVE with AUBURN.
